How to E-Verify your income tax return

E-verification is the process of electronically verifying your income tax return. It is a secure and convenient way to verify your return and submit it to the Income Tax Department.

To e-verify your income tax return, you will need to:

  • Login to the Income Tax e-filing portal using your user ID and password.
  • Click on the “e-Verify Return” tab.
  • Enter your PAN, the Assessment Year, and the Acknowledgment Number of your return.
  • Select the method of e-verification that you want to use.

The following are the methods of e-verification that are available:

  • Aadhaar OTP: This is the most common method of e-verification. You will need to enter your Aadhaar number and your registered mobile number. You will then receive an OTP on your mobile phone. Enter the OTP to verify your return.
  • EVC through a bank account: If you have a bank account that is linked to your Aadhaar number, you can use this method of e-verification. You will need to enter your bank account number and your IFSC code. You will then receive an EVC (Electronic Verification Code) on your registered mobile phone. Enter the EVC to verify your return.
  • EVC through demat account: If you have a Demat account that is linked to your Aadhaar number, you can use this method of e-verification. You will need to enter your demat account number and your broker’s code. You will then receive an EVC on your registered mobile phone. Enter the EVC to verify your return.
  • Net Banking: If you have a net banking account, you can use this method of e-verification. You will need to enter your net banking credentials. You will then be redirected to your bank’s website to complete the e-verification process.
  • Digital Signature Certificate (DSC): If you have a DSC, you can use this method of e-verification. You will need to upload your DSC file to the Income Tax e-filing portal.

Once you have selected a method of e-verification, click on the “Verify” button. Your return will be e-verified and submitted to the Income Tax Department.

It is important to note that your income tax return will not be processed until it is e-verified. So, it is important to e-verify your return as soon as possible after filing it.
